[NEW IN 2009]
It all start when Writersblock invited me to join January's Monthly Writing Competition. The objective was to write a Newgrounds Fan Fiction of your choice. I chose to write a prequal to Los Días Sin Días and surprisingly got second place! In February there was another contest, so I gave that a shot too. I didn't end up doing so well. Then in March, Luis organized an Amsterdam meetup. Something went wrong during the first day, and I ended up strolling around the meetup spot. Catoblepas and his friend were practically doing the same thing, so we hung around for a short while and split up after that. The next day everything went well, and I wrote an entry about it. Not too long after that, I decided to join the NG Sketchbook Tour. I would have gotten the shirt too, if it wasn't for creditcard payments. The same could be said for the 2010 Calendar. I joined a bunch of artists to create art for it, but they didn't pick my work in the end. Oh well. At the start of summer, Tom introduced "Power Of Three" to the community, so I teamed up with Lochie and Writersblock. Unfortunately, my mother died along the way. Eventually I got stuck doing all the thinking for our PO3 project, and we didn't make the deadline. I sort of forgot about it after a while. Too bad, it was looking pretty promising! Lochie and me created a few minigames though. At the end of the year I got very much involved with the Newgrounds treasurehunt. I recommended and reviewed many many movies, which was really fun! Also, Tom gave away free Wacom Tablets to the most promising artists on the site. Lochie was one of them. As for me, I received some free Newgrounds merchandise for recommending Fucking Kids as a Halloween gem.

[FLASH & COLLABORATIONS]
Lochie and me worked on a lot of projects this year, but most of them were never finished. He especially liked to use my audio, and sometimes requested songs. This is how I made 8-Banquet and both Cosmonaut songs. We had a pretty amazing game in the making. One of the earliest solo projects I was working on this year was a valentinesday flash; another one of those projects I should have finished, but didn't. Also, I thought nobody had any shockwave files from my Back To The Front project, and I had lost them forever, but someone still had them after all! They sent it to me, and I imediately finished the project as quick as I could. Better late than never, I guess! Somewhere in August I did another "lovey dovey" animation, and in October I finally decided to quit the NG Levels Collab to submit the animation by myself. After that, I did an attempt at a Christmas flash but never got far.

[AUDIO]
In contrast to last year, I finished a couple of my songs this year. I still did a lot of loops though, and a lot of them were made for people. Lochie Loop was a present for Lochie, B-Day Beat was for a friend's birthday, and Violet Flower Headbands was dedicated to my dead mother. Never Coming down again, 8-Banquet, Running Game and The Cosmonaut were all requested for flash projects. Fun Fact: Violet Flower Headbands was submitted on my mother's birthday, which is Christmas.

My Newgrounds History - 2009

[NEW IN 2008]
2008 was a very interesting year for me! I've been noticing how there were audio contests being held in preceding years, and really wanted to join one of those someday. So I went to the forums, but found something entirely different: A cool little initiative by SolidElectro called Continue The Song Game. I decided to join in at the last second. The result of the song ended up being alright, but it made a pretty big impact on the audio community. I quickly joined CTSG2, as another song was being made. To my surprise, Rig then took it to a whole new level. He introduced CTSG to the flashforums! I was quick to get involved and ended up playing an important role in completing this bad boy. It was a great experience which I ended up documenting. For me, this was the first time I had ever gotten featured on frontpage before. In the meanwhile, everyone made fun of Rig's face. Lochie and Writersblock became really good friends of mine, and we often collaborated. Then in October Wallpaperman went to Amsterdam and we first got to meet eachother in real life! Great news: Tom and April were expecting! I also spent a lot of time on the general forums, where there was a lot of picture editing going on. This is what actually inspired me to start using photoshop. THEJamoke eventually took a liking to my work, and invited me to join the Newgrounds Photoshop Headquarters. This club consisted of Newgrounds' finest photoshoppers and had some really fun competitions going on. Also, Campnorth was a popular thing at the time. Too bad it died.

[FLASH & COLLABORATIONS]
Apart from the CTSG collab, I had a couple of other projects running. I joined the NG Level Collab, for instance. I got really fed up with that project, eventually. The founder of this collab was always out of reach for some reason, and they weren't open to my ideas. It ended up being a really shitty collab, with no eye for quality. I don't think it ever got finished. Also, I was really inspired to do a Halloween project this year, so Writersblock wrote "The Delusion Duology" part 1 and 2, for me and Lochie to animate to. Unfortunately I was the only one who finished it before Halloween, and Lochie had to abandon the project. The following year I decided to animate his part of the story, but never quite finished it. Back To The Front was progressing slowly but surely. That is until my computer crashed this year. I lost the project and had no way to continue it (if only I was better with computers at the time). Wallpaperman spent a lot of time away from newgrounds, playing Team Fortress 2. Eventually I started playing it as well, and we both made an animation about it. Truth be told, it was the only way I could get him to animate. He never finished another movie after that. Not even Greenbeetle, which we both adore so much! Such a shame... Anyway, Lochie and me started working on games. Sadly all of our games were abandoned this year.

[AUDIO]
There's not a whole lot to be told about my audio this year. I got involved with CTSG and learned that you could download VST's. This really caught my interest, and so I worked on developing a different kind of sound. Furthermore, I ended up not finishing any songs, creating a whole bunch of loops instead.

My Newgrounds History - 2008

[NEW IN 2007]
Possibly the biggest change this year was me waking up to reality. Also, I suddenly got really fucking bored with the types of people you would find on Gaia Online, and found myself slowly getting more active on Newgrounds. Thanks to my time spent on Gaia, I developed this "cute" way of writing ^-^, which I didn't yet realize; sucked ass (needless to say). Anyway, Newgrounds had launched a redesign and I thought it was awesome! The profiles were completely different than before, with built-in news entries, and so I decided writing about my life a little. My audio this year was so-so, nothing too special. Worth mentioning is that I eventually fell in love with this thread, which was a turning point for me. Silly as this may sound, at that point I knew for sure that I was here to stay. It sort of felt like homecoming.

[FLASH & COLLABORATIONS]
Knife Jam was a project I had been working on in 2006, possibly even 2005! It was meant to be part of a collab, but nobody was working on it besides me, so yeah. Pot Jam was a successful collaboration however. I remember not spending much time on it. It was done in a week or so? The Tree Who Couldn't Dance was another one of those 2-year-old movies I never uploaded before, and Sir Wit And The Idiots was pretty fun to make. I randomly created a bunch of characters, and then Wallpaperman decided on some story. After I created the backgrounds, he had me record a few lines and then he put it all together. It's pretty crude, but whatever. More interesting than any of this was Wallpaperman's series Fletcher Fields. It started out as a serious attempt at animation, but he soon started taking the piss. Some obnoxious reviewer came along, which made for a couple of humorous episodes. Episode 6 and 8 were made by me and edited by Wallpaperman. Also, I made this abandoned little thing. And then there's this creepy flash I wanted to create about a young boy who'd meet a reptilian that wants to eat him. Watching it always cracks me up. It certainly is creepy somehow!

My Newgrounds History - 2007

[NEW IN 2006]
In comparison to prior years, I was a lot less active in 2006. At the start of the year I was rarely at home, which is why I wasn't on the internet as often. During this time, I spent my time mostly catching up with people; here on Newgrounds, but also on other websites. Through the user Sivartkcebael, I was introduced to a new website via AIM messenger. I signed up to Gaia Online in October 2005, where I made new friends, and got really unproductive with my time. All I ever did on Newgrounds in 2006 was create and review music. Psychologically, I was beyond rational thinking at this point. My delusions made for some great inspiration though, and fueled some of my proudest works. I'm not sure what my buddy Wallpaperman was doing that year. We were still talking to each other over MSN, but neither of us created any flashes this entire year.

My Newgrounds History - 2006

[NEW IN 2005]
Over the course of the past year, my English improved drastically. In 2005 I put that skill to good use, as I became a thoughtful reviewer. I also put it to bad use, when I found out about a "Psychic Club" in the General forums, where I got involved in ways I nowadays consider to be unhealthy (I was way too naive at the time). Let's just say that was an interesting time for me. On a more positive note, I started hanging out in the audio forums more often, and that's how I took notice of Kingbastard. I fell in love with what I now consider to be "Oldschool Kingbastard" stuff (his music continues to inspire me to this day). Unfortunately, the audio portal was under siege of the feared "zero bombers", and it pushed some musicians to the actual limit. Kingbastard deleted his stuff more than once. Such a shame! As for my own music: I celebrated my 50 uploads milestone. This year I also noticed lots of Newgrounds users being active on other websites. I actually became a fan of Vinnie Veritas after seeing his work on Deviantart, and this is where I first heard of Lazymuffin as well! Deviantart inspired me to create art. Wallpaperman had actually shown interest in learning how to draw manga, and that's where I jumped on the bandwagon. I bought some books that taught me valuable lessons about proportions, bodyparts and angles, among other things. I made a pretty huge leap forward just then. Unfortunately, some of the music and animations I made during this time never made it to Newgrounds. I also got into Oekaki and signed up to 2-draw.

[FLASH & COLLABORATIONS]
Somewhere within the year, Wallpaperman and me were working on a flash called TV Party Tonight, along with some other animators. When the project was just about finished, Wallpaperman's computer crashed and we lost all of our work. So sad. Another unfinished animation I did this year included a humorous toon about hittler getting chased by a monster. Supposedly part of a collab, I never finished that either. Anyway, Godlimations challenged Wallpaperman to an NGBG, and I joined in to make "For The Love Of NGBG". Again, I used my own un-uploaded audio. Soon afterwards, we uploaded Fly High. Fly High still is one of my proudest works for some reason. I don't see why though. It was total shit until Mortalpoet saved the day. Again, I made the menu music but never uploaded it. Pot Story was made as an exaggerated version of real life events, as told by Wallpaperman and voiced by Mortalpoet. The annoying ways in which the characters spoke were actually quite common for me at the time. Me and Wallpaperman were pretty much used to having entire conversations that way. Towards the end of the year I started working on a video for Kingbastard's song "Back To The Front", but unfortunately stuff happened, and I didn't finish it until years later.

[AUDIO]
Inspired by punk music and Mad Capsule Markets, Wallpaperman and me formed an online "band", if you want to call it that. We came up with the name "Degradation Of Race" through the use of a translator, which became the name of the group. The music's just a lot of screaming random noises, with sampled guitars in the background and way too much distortion. Listening back to it always cracks me up, especially lyrics-wise. Oh, and then there's a song called MC Fool vs. Peanutman, which I cannot even begin to explain. Embarrassing stuff! All of it was uploaded on Wallpaperman's account. As for my serious attempts at music: I was really getting the hang of Fruityloops 4. Towards the end of the year, I got pretty familiar with all the VST, which is how I got much better at mixing my songs. I also downloaded and created my own samples for a more distinctive sound. Newshape took a liking to it, from what I remember.

My Newgrounds History - 2005

Posted by Whirlguy - November 19th, 2013

[NEW IN 2004]
The next year my illiteracy spread to the forums, where I worked on making signatures, animated AIM icons and sprite models. The most amazing thing about this year was Bitey Of Brackenwood. Probably the worst thing that happened this year was the Livecorpse incident. I didn't really know him or his flashes at the time, but Wallpaperman (a user I befriended that year) said he was acquainted with him, albeit for a couple of weeks. My animation skills improved, as I learned to draw better over the year, and learned to animate frame by frame. During my holiday in July, Wallpaperman snatched a daily 4th. This really surprised me, as I could only dream of ever getting an award. On top of that, everything was a race between us, and he just got way ahead of me! It took him less than a month to get another award: Turd of the week this time. I think that's the last award he ever received for a solo project. I also decided to finally submit some of the music I made in Fruityloops 3 to the audio portal. I believed myself to be a pretty amazing musician, but obviously had a long way to go to be like my role model (at the time): paragonx9.

[FLASH & COLLABORATIONS]
Worse than my audio submissions though, was the horrible taste in music of my audience. Some of these people even used my audio in their flash submissions! One of these people was Wallpaperman, with his Elevator Of Death. After thanking him in a review, we became inseparable internet buddies. Around the same time, I randomly contacted Anime_Pat (Now known as Godlimations) when his first movie Legend Of Xunmato was under judgment. I loved his work and wished to collaborate with him. I introduced him to Wallpaperman, and from that moment forward we were a team, though he proofed to be far out of our league. Together we created this piece of shit right here. Some of the audio I made around this time was never uploaded to the audio portal, but was instead used for animations (Wallpaperman loved using my audio). Murder For Hire was one of such videos. He didn't make that movie though; I did, as a failed entry for Time Trail III. I gave him permission to upload it for some reason I can't remember. Wallpaperman and me decided to join Newgrounds Battlegrounds, and ended up screwing up Luis' plan by submitting our animation too early (I think Luis was still a little bitter about that when I met him in Amsterdam). Oops! We really liked the concept of NGBG though, and kept it alive with 2 more submissions. Another of our collaborations was Knife Jam, where I got to work alongside of Mortalpoet for the first time. Also, I was pretty damn passionate about "Sword Of Worldbounds", which was based on a story I was writing back in the day. User 45288 helped me out with the voices.

[AUDIO]
In terms of music, I was always aiming to be in the top 5 of the week. Me and Ryeguyhead used to review eachother's music all the time. I also got in contact with respected Newgrounds musician Chronamut towards the end of the year. We often talked and I looked up to his skills. That's when I realized there was still plenty of room for improvement, and made a lot of progress in a really short time. I'm still thankful for that.

My Newgrounds History - 2004

Posted by Whirlguy - October 21st, 2013

[NEW IN 2003]
I was a real boyscout (or "naive" as Luis called it when I told this at a meet-up) and waited until I was 13 before I signed up to Newgrounds, which was not too long after the redesign where they first got rid of the black background. Another redesign was made a couple of months later. I loved it! Anyway, when I finally was a member, I ended up being a huge pain in the ass for the community. My English was horribly laughable, and I wrote a lot of malicious reviews. At one point they were all deleted from what I remember, and I was banned from reviewing for a few days. I also created my own flashes, looking up to artists like LegendaryFrog and Picanjo, who both were insanely popular at the time. When a cousin of mine showed me Dragonball Infinite, I got really inspired and ended up making the Dragonball Future series (Which I then deleted later on). Then one faithful day, a user named 45288 reviewed me, and I thought his videos were amazing. We started talking on MSN, and he became my first NG buddy. He used some of my pre-2004 audio in his flashes, which I still feel is pretty special to me.

[OBITUARIES]
I tried hard but never found Dragonball Future. Wade was the one who deleted it, so I guess it never got a memorial. Here's some old obituaries I managed to find though:

My Newgrounds History - 2003

Posted by Whirlguy - October 21st, 2013

Today is my 10th Newgrounds Anniversary!

To celebrate this wonderful event, I'll post a screenshot from the first movie that ever made it through the portal in 2003. It was called "Dragonball Future", and I think I uploaded 3 episodes. Unfortunately I decided to delete all of it in 2004, and this is the only thing I have to remember it by. I'll make a list of memorable moments and achievements once I find the time.

God I feel so old now...

10 Years Of Newgrounds
