I'd love to start a band. But I would probably hate to join a band. I've got one of those mentalities that means that this is "my" band and not "yours", although I can't see myself going around putting up posters saying "join my band!" and getting people asking, ok, how many members have you got so far? Oh, just me. I'm looking for musicians that will conform to my will and perform the songs I write exactly how I want. I'd need to find another person with whom I could start it with. Well, that's what I think anyway.
But, yeah, I'd probably be pretty laid back about it, make a few songs, play a few gigs, probably wouldn't get caught up in recording and trying to make it big, although it would be fun to tour alongside Birds of Tokyo or some other awesome Aussie band like that.
I've only ever done classical gigs, but I've been involved in some stuff that's left me in awe, so I guess, maybe I could bring contemporary classical into the mainstream? lol

Ok, now I'm doing the same thing as you did on my blog. Enough about me, sounds like you had fun. A bit of a shame that you didn't have the right people alongside you that you could form a longer lasting band relationship. Yeah, you just need the right people, who knows when you'll run into them?
Good luck with your performing future. It's always good to have something under your belt, and to not get so disappointed about how it didn't last. Maybe you'll be on the stage again sooner than you think. ;D

Also, is it just me, or could this apply to dating advice as well? Which is probably not a good think as a noob on that subject.

Speaking of dating and relations. Being kicked out of a band somewhat feels the same as being dumped.

I know what you mean when it comes to writing your own songs, but then again. This band was my experiment, and I was the last one to drop in. I just wanted everyone to be honest about the songs that I wrote that were going to be used in the band, so that in the end no one would feel uncomfortable. But then the 3 of them started writing songs without me, and I was the one getting agitated, feeling uncomfortable(They all lived close together, plus its not easy to move a synthesizer).
I guess I did not like their lyrics either.

Of course I wrote some own songs, but we never did anything with them. I'm sure they could have become very awesome songs, oh well. The best thing to do when in a band, is not discussing but playing. Show what you've made and let the rest jam to it. Everyone adds a bit of their own, and everybody's happy. Usually the compositions shape automaticly.

When I got kicked out of the band, we were having a jam session. Everything anoyed me, they decided playing a "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine. Way too hard for me to add anything good to it. I couldn't hear myself playing either. After that we decided to practice the only song we made with the 4 of us, but they screw up the composition. I complain about it, and they tell me I should take it easy and it should be good for our improvisation.

I went outside to cool down, considering to step out of the band, when the rest of the band gathers around me and tells me they think it's better for me to get out of the band.

Meh, hehe.
The guitarist is very tallented, but only played a couple of months. He's a good friend of mine I know for years, who got me into this band. Into a lot of music genres, mostly alternative, indie, rock and metal.
The bassplayer never had any lessons but played a couple of years. He had a fretless bass and played pretty well, not amazing though. He does have an awesome voice. He's enthausiastic about silly things, and is way too careless. Nonetheless, he put up this band. Most favourite musicgenre is funk.
The drummer is better at rapping than he is at drumming. His voice was still rather high, played drums for 4 years but had trouble keeping up the rythm. Favourite genre is hiphop.

Oh yeah, not to mention that right before performing, our bassist adjusts a few more things about the composition O_o
But oh well. Enough ranting :P

If you ever join a band, make sure the members are not careless. Everyone is skilled at playing their instruments, and the musical interests don't differ all too much.

Sometimes I think that if I tried starting a band I'd be too ambitious and too meticulous on how I want things to sound that I'd never get anywhere, but I guess I'll just wait till I find the right people. I don't really form tight relationships with people that would work in a band situation, and the people I used to hang out/be friends with either left town or I don't bother catching up with them any more, just the accidental meet in the street "oh hi!", there's not really that many people my age still in town that are worth getting to know because I either already know them, or I won't know them for much longer since I'll be leaving end of the year anyway.

Regardless, I'll probably try and get back into writing proper song songs again, now that I could probably make something decent. I used to be pretty good with lyrics (pretty emo lyrics though) with a basic guitar progression, so if I can elaborate on that, get some crunk riffs, kickass basslines and a "fuck-the-world" melodic vocal line, I'll be down with the kids in no time. ;D

I'm usually a pretty serious musician, but I'd like to be in a band because it's fun, and I'd like to try something different and pass that "fun" side of me onto the crowd. "Hey everyone, thanks for coming to hear us play. Here's a song I wrote today, called "I Microwaved Your Hampster", and uhh, I hope you like it."

The title doesn't sound as serious as you probably are with your music carreer ;)

I've seen that video before, atleast. I had been linked to it in the forum once but decided to click it away. Didn't like the beginning all that much, seemed like it was going nowhere. But now I watched through the whole thing, I love where it goes. I felt some adrenaline there.

I'm actually quite a rebel type myself. I used to be in psychiatric hospitals. Always used to be that guy to put up everyone against the authorities. Maybe it's because I have a strong feeling for justice, and I emit my anger in speeches that seem pretty convincing. I never really mean to take anyone with me :P

You should try and go join a band when you feel like it. I remember I had a strong desire, and then it happened. It was a very cool experience in the end :3
