CTSGAE- Blended Awesomeness

"Wow it's finally finished! =D"

date: July 9, 2009

This version of the CTSG obviously had great planning involved, all of the artists worked together so well! There's on thing that's been bothering me a little. From 0:00 to 2:57 it was all kind of stuck in just one genre. I always thought diversity was an essential need in the CTSG project, so yeah. Still FUCKING AWESOME guys =D

The intro is great, not so sure about EchozAurora's part though. In my opinion it was a little too energetic and the transition wasn't all that great either. But hey, the song does build up kind of slow so a little bit of movement wouldn't be out of place. And it still is the CTSG afteral, might seem a lot more fitting along with the animation. Besides, jrhager did a splendid job following up on Echoz's part.
Nav's part drops dead, followed up by some great chords which remain in SBB's and Soluslunes' parts. I guess it takes away the diversity a little, but I still like it a lot!
Unexpected but awesome is Sorohanro's part, who in my opinion saved this collaboration and the CTSG's name at the same time, simply by keeping it diverse.
Is the song finished now?
No wait...!
Lashmush suddenly drops in. It sounds awesome, yet... How unexpected... What a horrible transition... :/
Not really! If this were just a regular song, yes! I would agree. But this is the CTSG Animation Edition, harhar! This song will be great as an unexpected, powerful ending. And when done right, it'll be seriously epic!

Guys, you're my heroes.

Speaking of which- YOU WILL ANIMATE A PART, YES?

I'm going to try and whore this out to the flash forum shortly. And Lashmush's ending is pure awesome. :D

Lighthouse Song

"I hope this helps (:"

submission: Lighthouse Song

The intro is spectacular! The buildup is great and I loved the effect you have used there. It's grand! Maybe the intro took an itty bit too long, but it was good. And it was atleast a little disapointing that ther part following up on it wasn't very powerfull.

I think you should have sped up the bassline right when the intro ends. This song could have used a little variation in the chords aswel, it gets a little dull after 8 minutes. The kick wasn't powerful enough in overall and I can barely hear the snare. If I may do a suggestion, I'd try to find something to replace your Fruityloops drumsamples to create more of your own sound. The strings sound a little sharp and loud. Maybe you should lower the cut a little and keep them more in the background, perhaps add a chorus to it and turn up the release a little. But don't take my word for it. The ending to this song is just splended. Great job!

Other than that I don't think there's much to tell you. Synplant was a great buy and I think you'll be making a lot more awesome music with it ;)
I hope this was atleast a little helpful :3

Thanks Whirlguy. You know the dealio with my album, and I'd probably do a lot of chopping and changing to my songs, in which case, a lot of these criticisms will be very handy. At the least, you've pointed out some parts that could use some brushing up. Thanks a lot, man, what a well crafted and attractive review you have written here. <3

(_RGH_) Wisped Away (F777)

"Very calming"

date: April 14, 2009

This song makes me think of a tropical, rather bewildered environment, close to the sea and at late sunset. The sky is dark purple and the sun red. A small beach is nearly visable through the dark contours of the voliage. It fits perfectly with this song in my opinion.

I love how calming this song is, it makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable. The tropical feel to this song is very refreshing and even though there are some leads in there, they just blend away in the atmosphere. The pads and percursion were especially nice to my ears, though there wasn't really anything I disliked. This song is trully unique. Nice one!

Author's Response:

Splendid.

The build is not really complete cuz my computer is too slow to play it through Reason(it gets too epic)

I might put this one through a professional studio's mixer eventually.

We've all got our dreams...

"Cool song!"

submission: Bridal Creeper

Cool song man! Indeed very vintage like you mentioned, using Fruityloops samples and such. It's not the kind of sound I personally would intent to go for, but sounds nice and addicting. Especially that lead synth you said you made in 3xOsc. I do however think you could have extended the build up a lot, and maybe added effects that would support the transitions into a more powerfull listening experience. Oh and the bassline definitely sounds too loud, it distracts me from the rest of this wonderfull song. Which I am sure; results in that empty feel people mentioned earlier. The bassline is like a background to a movie: If you make it too distracting people won't notice the foreground anymore. Lower the volume of the bassline and it will make the diversity of the song stand out again (:

Author's Response:

Hey WG, thanks for the review.
If I get around to adjusting this song I'll lower the bass and such. I have a bit of trouble with transitions, it'd be good to work on that a bit.
Cheers, man!

Oijoink - Restless Desert

"It's an alright song (:"

date: October 23, 2008

The song starts off rather nice, but just as I'm digging the tune, the song is heavily disturbed by the loud sounds of it's main tune. It's not bad or anything, in fact I like the tune. But in my opinion this song is kinda short, and the main tune shouldn't start after 13 seconds but needs a build up. Also I like the little thing you did in the middle there, it's catchy (:

I came across this when I checked out your submission "Butterflies," which had been frontpaged.

I like the way this is life performed, everything is. It's not perfect, but that's what I love about it so much. It is like a one person jamsession and has a moody but laid back feel to it. Nostalgic maybe. The lead synth in there is very soothing and works in a magical way, it's the perfect touch to this song and played very emotionally. Wonderfully well composed. I loved every second of this piece.

Fantasie Mystique (NG Cut)

"Yay!"

date: August 20, 2008

The beginning of this intro song is very classical and nice. I love how the electronic sounding pad goes through, and the harp coming in. It's awesome. Then comes some sort of crash. Great add to the composition. I would made it more powerful by putting in more bass myself.

The drums come in after a while, I love them. A very sweet job on the panning job here. It starts to sound a bit full at this part. I love the lead synth that comes in, though the drums seem to be compressed a lot, which sounds a bit out of place.

The lead synth in time gets very experimental sounding. Very awesome. Towards the end I was hoping for some sort of change in the chords, bringing a sort of epic powerfull feeling to the song. A switch like that works surprisingly powerfull after hearing the same chords playing for some time. The ending to this song was alright. I'm sure it wasn't easy to make up an ending.

-At times the song sounds too full, especially when the drums start. If the intro of a song already sound full, then the rest of the buildup will sadly not emit the power you want it to.
-The compression sounds a little strange to me. The drums sound too much on the background, and the synth lead is on the foreground too much.

Awesome song man! Can't wait to hear the rest of the album ;)

Thanks whirlyperson!
Yeah, compression and mix and mastering is still a tentative business for me. Although I'm better now than I ever have been, I still can't get that extra punchiness in the drums, like you're drumming directly onto the listener's face.
Thanks for the review. <3

This is just so stunningly good. Definitely my new favourite song of yours. Made with samples from fruityloops and with fruityloops only.. I have heard amazing fruityloops demo songs, but never anything coming close to being as good as this. Your mastering may not be as good as it normally is but DAMN. This song is freaking awesome. I cant wait till you get to completely mastering it! (:

You inspiring bastard harhar!
Hope you enjoy your 10 as much as I enjoyed this song :P

IT FEELS SO GOOD AGAINST MY SWEATY SKIN :3

lol

Yeah, I had a lot of trouble with the mastering, because I'm mixing with headphones as I had to leave my stereo system (and midi keyboard *tear*) back in Montreal due to the fact that I HAD NO ROOM IN MY LUGGAGE. :(

Glad it works for you, though! I had fun writing it, and will most likely do it again.

submission: A Thousand Times

Congratulations on frontpage!

This song builds up beautifully, very well composed! The singing is awesome and clear. Very professional. It sets a very great mood. The solo sounded very cool and the ending is really powerfull!

I see people writing that something misses, and I agree. Its a bassline that misses. Also the panning you used on the guitarstrumming sounds a bit strange without anything to make it sound natural. Like a bassline :3

I really enjoyed this song! I hope you'll put up some lyrics in the comments^-^

April 24, 2008

Author's Response:

yes, i agree on the bass. I never got around to it... but maybe I will now. As far as the panning goes, I cut my teeth listening to stuff that's pre-seventies. They used to pan to the extreme back then out of necessity.

I asked you one thousand times,
now I can't tell the difference yet

I asked you to drive this time,
but I can't tell the difference yet

Say it in your own words this time
so that I don't have to read your lips.

I asked you "what's on your mind?"
Now I can't tell the difference yet

I asked you to drive this time
now I can't tell the difference yet

Say it in your own words this time
so that I don't have to read your lips
