Fun New Projects

Posted by Whirlguy - November 25th, 2014

Time for an update. What's been happening? Let's see, I had a good idea for a game. I worked out the concept a bit and started on the graphics but eventually felt that my approach was all wrong and stopped working on it. I have to figure out a better way to create pixel graphics in flash. Working with rasters is tedious and pretty hard on your computer's memory. Plus it's absolutely horrible to go back and edit. Maybe having pixel graphics was a bad idea altogether. I really wanted it to have that Diablo II atmosphere though... If memory serves right, Flixel had some really neat tools (EDIT: I mean Pixel Tools). Maybe I should check it out.

A break was in order anyway. A friend of mine introduced me to a game called Osu. I played that once before earlier this year, and concluded it wasn't really my thing. I'm not much of a rhythm gamer. Got to say It's really fun to see yourself improve though, and it made me want to watch anime. My friend started streaming his playthroughs over twitch and that's how I thought of streaming my animation projects. I've already downloaded the required software. All I have to do now is set it up so I can stream it over twitch.

This brings me to my upcoming projects. Truth be told; I used up a lot of energy working on that horror animation of mine. I really had to push myself to stay indoors and finish the project, which I kind of hated. Needless to say, I was reluctant to accept that rapper's request for a musicvideo. I am willing to consider this now, though. We still have to discuss a lot of things regarding the video, but it's a paid job and I could stream it online. I suddenly feel pretty motivated!

I am your 200th fan :)

btw, I hope 2014 went well for you.

Hahaha, I was planning to personally thank my 200th fan through a pm. I am glad to see that you enjoy my work! So yeah, thanks for clicking that button, 200 fans is a great way to start the year! :)

You too, and a happy 2015.

Horror animation? Have you posted it yet? The paid gig sounds good, just hope it covers your electric and food bill for the time you're working on it. BTW, are you having a weather related situation in your country just now? I thought I heard something on the news...

I've been staying away from NG since the blog comments got reversed, but really I've been burning myself out, helping contributors to the site get a handle on things here. Thanks for fanning me... kinda already thought you had, unless you exceeded the ~1,064 cap and re-added me.

I don't know what you're talking about haha, apart from drizzling the weather over here seems fine. There was a power outage yesterday, if that's what you heard? I doubt that went global though. The music video isn't coming by the way, as you might have noticed I should really update my post. Yeah sometimes I just seem to forget to click that lovely heart at the top of people profiles. How did it go unnoticed though? I should be ashamed of myself D:

As for that horror animation, it's over here :)

Yeah, that's what it was, sorry to hear it... it must've knocked out some big company's websites, to make it to the global news.

Shit, I thought I had seen that (after looking through your submission list). November was a shit month for me, still haven't recovered from the loss of money, the loss of tools... dignity... long story.

Eh, it's not even about clicking a heart, but keeping up with what people produce here, giving them an incentive to keep going. The Front Page shows there's a lot of favoritism here, always has been, which was why the Portal used to be the link we'd share around in the old days... meh

Ha yeah, that must be it. I didn't really mind the outage myself. I'm really sorry to hear about the damage November has caused you man... You remind me that I should really be looking for gems again. I loved doing that, but it was also kind of time consuming. Nowadays I've taken it upon myself to blow new life into the CTSG collab:

That was 6 years ago, heh. I started the audio thread back in February:

Since this is almost done, I am working on a menu now. I'll take this to the collaboration forums later on, where I hope to find game developers and artists interested in contributing their work. If everything goes well, people should be able to view a mural with hidden references that award medals when clicked. As well as simple minigames which also will be awarded with medals. To top it off, there'll be an animation about the 20 years of Newgrounds. Sounds totally doable :3

And the new (scrolls down to check) new CTSG collab is 88% completed? Wow, you've been busting your hump lately! The 20 years of Newgrounds animation sounds kinda daunting though.

Especially within the given time! There's a couple of people willing to organize the games and art from separate threads. I hope that'll give me some room to manage the flash project :)

Thanks for the review by the way!

Yup, you're sure a pillar of the community now! I'm glad this place brings out the best in people, which is to work together, to make something greater.

It's hard to review something that works so well. Everyone took it seriously, and their contributions reflected that. It's good to see collabs where everyone's work looks about the same quality.

Definitely, that's what Newgrounds is all about! And yeah, that Girl In A Room Collab had some really awesome animators in there. It was fun to be a part of. Maybe I'll join it again this year :)

I should really leave more reviews myself. I guess I kind of stopped doing that when the number system disappeared and everything was replaced with stars. I also really liked how the review system had separate scores for Graphics, Style, Sound, Violence and Humor. I was more of an audio reviewer but still, those were some great reviewing guidelines for me. These days though, I'm not even sure what to say in a review anymore. The thing is made to look like a commenting system but it's not. I never quite got used to that.
